Valentine’s week was extra sweet for the Saving Our Daughters’ Cinderellas program from the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem.

On Wednesday, February 15th, the Cinderellas had the opportunity to attend their first Broadway hit musical, Waitress, which was sponsored by actress and Ambassador of “Saving Our Daughters” performing arts program, Grace Gealey Byers and her husband Trai Byers of the FOX hit series “Empire.”

(Lead actress, Jessie Mueller of the Broadway hit show, Waitress who plays “Jenna” shares with members of Saving Our Daughters how set designers create plastic pies with space for a real slice for the actors to eat while performing.)

Following the musical’s evening performance, an important talk back session took place with lead cast members of Waitress , Jessie Mueller, Charity Angel Dawson, Drew Grehling, Anastacia McCleskey, Molly Jobe and Ella Dane Morgan.

The cast inspired the ladies on what it takes to be consistent on Broadway and educational goals to focus on to be successful in the business. The cast discussed those who inspired them to continue their dreams within the arts. The girls loved every moment and you saw many making mental notes of everything they experienced in that evening.

“The play was great because it showed real life situations that people go through and how you can still be okay even when you’re not making the best choices.

It was so inspiring to meet the actors’ minutes after the play ended. It made me realize how they are everyday people just like me.

Talking to the actors opened my eyes to how much work it takes to do what your dream of.” ~Boys & Girl Club of Harlem Saving Our Cinderellas
