A BIG WAY TO END A BIG YEAR FOR SAVING OUR CINDERELLAS – CLEVELAND!
Well…the Saving Our Cinderellas program supported by the MYCOM Initiative of Greater Cleveland who partners with Saving Our Daughters to sponsor school/community partnerships throughout the Cleveland and East Cleveland Communities, is ending the school year on an AMAZING note! The Cinderellas were recently bestowed the honor of being named “Romona’s Kids”!
An Afternoon at the Television Studio – Wow!
For this honor, a select group of Cinderellas were given the extraordinary opportunity to represent the organization in a special segment during the 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. news on WOIO-TV, and the 9:00pm on WUAB-TV 43 News.
Romona and WOIO-TV Producer, Stannie Grimes, really rolled out the red Cinderella carpet. First stop…the STUDIO. “WOW….”is what a lot of the girls said as they looked in awe at the fact that they were inside a real, live television studio, and were each going to be interviewed by the female news Anchor. The sea of bright lights and wide-eyed teen girls, along with “big sister” Jocelyn and the proud (and beaming) teachers who knew how hard these girls had worked all year, served as a beautiful backdrop for the interview with Romona.
As Romona interviewed each and every girl, it was both eye-opening and inspirational to all in the room. The intense confidence shown by girls who may not have felt that same confidence when the program first started, was something to behold. The girls were passionate, articulate and forthcoming in how Saving Our Cinderellas has given them the strength to deal with a myriad of personal experiences, including bullying. Romona listened intently and was very personable with the girls. The girls really enjoyed their time with her, and shhhhh…Romona doesn’t know it yet, but she will most certainly be named an honorary “Cinderellas Celebrity Godparent”!
Second Stop…the GRAND TOUR
After the interview, the girls were given a personal tour by Stannie. And oh, how fun that was! The girls saw the control room where they make it all happen. They were also invited onto the set of the 5 o’clock news where they were lucky enough to watch Romona give her Teaser for the 6:00 news, meet two other news anchors and take photos. And, they even met the weatherman! And in true Cinderellas style, they took selfies in the WOIO-TV Make-up room!
A Memorable Experience…
The WOIO-TV Romona’s Kids taping was truly a special experience for the girls. It was not only an experience that will help them continue to grow in their confidence, poise and communication, but they will be able to cherish the fact that they were exposed to, met, and were interviewed by, one of the most respected female role models in Cleveland, and are now and forever, one of “Romona’s Kids”! It’s an experience that the girls will never forget! But most importantly, the Cinderellas opened the window and helped us all see the reflection of the tremendous progress they have made since the Cleveland program’s inception last Fall. They did Saving Our Daughters proud!
