To celebrate the start of the 2018-2019 school year, HBO is partnering with Saving Our Daughters to provide school supplies from the new Sesame Workshop series Esme & Roy to students in the gender equity organization’s “Cinderellas” film literacy program. Participating kindergarten through second grade girls in Atlanta, Cleveland, Dallas, and Chicago will receive Esme & Roy-themed backpacks, crayons, and copies of I Am Enough and A Night Out With Mama picture books.

Saving Our Daughters supports girls between the ages of 4-12 years old – creating tools and programs to help them develop skills to overcome obstacles like bullying, peer pressure, lack of access to educational opportunities, and gaps in the number of role models in their communities.

“We feel this partnership with HBO will create powerful messaging for our girls on peer-bonding relationships, while also focusing on the importance of positive self-esteem, to believe the impossible,” said Curtis B., Chief Executive Officer of Saving Our Daughters.

Debuting on Saturday, August 18th on HBO, Esme & Roy is the first new animated series from the nonprofit makers of Sesame Street in more than ten years. The program follows a young girl, Esme, and her best monster friend, Roy, on their adventures as the best monster babysitters in Monsterdale. Aimed at children ages four to six, it offers a creative new approach to teaching “learning through play” and mindfulness strategies.

Esme & Roy is the latest example of Sesame Workshop’s long history of empowering girls around the world, ” said Jackie Gagne, Vice President of Multicultural Marketing, HBO. “HBO is excited to build on this work by partnering with Saving Our Daughters, helping ensure future generations of girls are prepared for success.”
