Keke Palmer has been super busy in 2019. Just this past August, she was named full-time host of GMA3: Strahan, Sara and Keke on GMA Day. Her new film, Hustlers, opposite Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Julia Stiles and Cardi-B opens in theaters on September 13th. She has dropped 2 new music singles this past month alone. And she has continued to find time to give back to the community- in part with Saving Our Daughters.
On Tuesday August 20th Keke took time to surprise a group of her INCREDIBLE Cinderellas at the East La Rising Boys & Girls Club, for girls who have made amazing strides within the arts, such as dance, singing and acting.
The special surprise visit was coordinated by ABC 7 News in Los Angeles and Keke’s Saving Our Daughters’ (SOD) organization, just in time for the first day of school. During the emotional and extraordinarily inspirational visit, Keke shared her advice on following dreams, pursuing passions, working hard and never giving up. The girls, who have known Keke for years, were thrilled to reconnect with her and even shared some of their own talents.
Keke has supported the club since she was 14 years old and was so thrilled to return and surprise her girls, have some fun and offer her support. She mentioned that without the support of a few inspirational artists in her own teen years she wouldn’t be where she is today, so it means the world to her to have the opportunity to pay the blessings she has been given forward. What a way to start off the girls’ school year!! KEKE STYLE!!!!
SOD works with girls from multicultural backgrounds through theater, film, culinary arts, and literacy to help overcome bullying. In 2014, Keke invited underprivileged girls to her Broadway musical, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, where Keke was the first African American actress to play Cinderella on Broadway.
The experiences gained from this once in a lifetime opportunity of attending a Broadway show led to the launch of the Cinderella program. Being a “Cinderella” means you take part in programming and lessons that bring awareness to the effects of bullying, teach healthy peer relationships, conflict management, and self-care skills through the arts.
