As you know, Saving Our Daughters creates tools to motivate young girls and to ignite a fiery passion to take power away from negative issues caused by bullying. Much of the success of the motivation comes from the Celebrity Godparent program, which uses mentoring and education beyond the borders of a traditional classroom.
The Saving Our Cinderellas Program, co-founded by actress and singer, Keke Palmer, was excited to welcome Mykal-Michelle Harris, as one of its youngest mentors, at 7 years old, as a Celebrity Godparent.
You may recognize Ms. Mykal-Michelle, as she plays the sassy and funny, Santamonica Johnson, on ABC’s Black-ish spinoff series, Mixed-ish.
On Thursday December 5th, Mykal-Michelle inspired her peers at the East La Rising Club by using her special gift of acting to help her peers learn tools to deter bullying and creating positive peer friendships. As her character she plays on the show, Mykal had so much charisma and excitement as she enjoyed talking about her early acting career and also her love for her mom.
Mykal had so much fun and would love to do something with the organization again; as she ended her Cinderellas class with a fun acting activity and enjoyed a tasty pizza and an amazing selfie with all of them right afterwards.
The Cinderellas program at the East LA location has had a rich tradition on many young and impactful actresses, such as Disney’s Wrinkle In Time, Storm Reid, ABC’s Fresh off the Boat, Hudson Yang and This Is Us, Eris Baker.
About Mykal-Michelle Harris
7-year-old Mykal-Michelle “Mimi” Harris has made a splash in her first series regular role on ABC’s “Mixed-Ish.” After recurring roles on HBO’s “Big Little Lies” and Showtime’s “The Affair,” Mykal-Michelle is moving to comedy and taking over the role of ‘Santamonica Johnson’ from “Black-ish’s” Rashida Jones. “Mixed-ish” premiered in September 2019 ahead of its predecessor and follows a young ‘Rainbow Johnson,’ as she and her siblings (Mykal-Michelle and Ethan Childress) navigate growing up in a mixed-race family and finding their identities in the 1980s after moving from a hippie commune to the suburbs.
Charismatic and full of sass, Mykal-Michelle is best known for her 2015 viral video as Serena Williams’ biggest fan; charming the audiences of “GMA” and “Little Big Shots” with her enthusiasm, athleticism and candor at only 3-years-old.
Aside from “Mixed-ish,” she also spends her time as the spokesperson for L.O.L. Surprise!, the reigning Toy of the Year since its debut in 2017. Amazon recently released the L.O.L. Surprise Winter Disco! special starring Mykal-Michelle on November 1st.
