As the world battles a global pandemic, the importance of maintaining social engagement and encouraging connections has an unprecedented need. In an age of overwhelming sources of information, peer networks and media heavily influence the identities and self-worth of adolescents. For young girls of color, COVID-19 has shifted their opportunities to engage with peers, physically and socially altering their ability to continue developing in their education and career choices during this vulnerable time.

So, during Women’s History Month of March, Saving Our Daughters’ launched a powerful partnership with Celebrity Godparents Mentors, Food Network veteran & OWNS’s TreGayes Way, Chef TreGaye Fraser, and Jasmine Stewart, Winner of Master Chef Jr Season 5, on a series of fun & interactive cooking programming online classes for selected girls and their families.

To help the launch, On March 6th, selected girls and their parents had an amazing cooking and reading experience with a Green, Eggs and Ham, brunch theme, as Jr. Chef Jasmine did a cooking demonstration of her incredible eggs & ham muffins with her 20 little girls and their moms in their own kitchens. During their fun time cooking together, Jasmine also took time to answer many girls’ questions to Jasmine, on how she got started in her career and what were some of her favorite dishes to cook.

Later that day, Own’s Chef TreGaye, had a special intimate evening with her mom’s that cooked a special Cajun Chicken Sandwich dinner while discussing the ups & down of being a mom, wife and even an educator during the changing times amid covid.
Saving Our Daughters’ is so excited on its launch of this programming as it provides mentoring support, life skills, and career readiness skills to girls & parents of color.

Also, the program focuses on the needs of girls & parents of color and offers culturally relevant solutions to dealing with social issues, while simultaneously utilizing the art of culinary to provide hope during these trying times.
